A couple of years ago, my family moved to Jingwan-dong, Seoul. Back then, I didn't want to move since I liked my old place. But then the time has passed, and now I want to stay here forever. It's really nice to live here. Why? What makes Jingwan-dong so special?
Briefly, Jingwan-dong is a precinct in the Eunpyeong-gu, which is located northwest of Seoul. The nearest subway station here is Gupabal station. And it takes about 40 minutes to get there from Gangnam station. (Yes, Gangnam from "Gangnam Style" by PSY.)
The first thing I love about this area is the fact that it's near the Bukhansan National Park. It depends on where you live in Jingwan-dong, but it takes about 15 minutes for me to get there on foot. For those of you who don't know about Bukhansan, I've attached photos of it. It's beautiful. (Fun fact: With around 5 million visitors each year, it’s listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “Most Visited National Park per Unit Area," Korea National Park Service says.)
And maybe because it is near the national park, the area is generally clean and has many small mountains as well. You can't expect to see those very often in Seoul.
Next, even with all the great nature, every facility you need is still here. Lotte Department Store, a giant Korean department store chain, is just right next to Gupabal station. And it has everything you would need: a movie theatre, restaurants, clothing stores, a bookstore, etc. And of course, there are many other facilities outside the mall as well. Even a huge hospital like the Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital is here. With these, I honestly don't need to go outside this area.
And lastly, despite its great atmosphere, the area is a bit undervalued than other areas of Seoul. And I see living here now as a great financial investment for the future.
So, as you can see, this is why Jingwan-dong is a great place to live. If you are planning to visit Seoul, why not explore here?
